Kalamandal , Dharwad, an Art- oriented  Trust , commenced its activities in the early 90’s. Dharwad is a noted place in the cultural arena of our country, with its significant contribution to music, literature and fine Arts. It was Dharwad which started one of the oldest Art schools in Karnataka for education in Fine arts, way back in 1935.
Kalamandala has been striving to further this Art awareness through its incessant art activities both in Dharwad and in the neighbouring towns and cities. It endeavours to familiarise the contemporary National and International Art-trends and experimentations to the people.  Over the years, Kalamandala has been active holding exhibitions, art camps, seminars, workshops, summer classes for children and so on, constantly. Apart from this, Kalamandal has been quite successfully showcasing the both traditional and experimental plays of different languages to the audience of Dharwad.  Every month, films based on art and artists and short films are regularly screened. As a special feature, every year, art appreciation workshops are conducted both in Dharwad and  other  major cities, and this programme  is very much appreciated and well received. Kalamandal has been taking keen interest in promoting the young upcoming artists by giving fellowship and financial assistance to conduct shows.
In 1993, Kalamandala had organised a camp for the women- artists for the first time in Karnataka, and the works done in the camp were auctioned and the proceeds were donated to the development of the gallery in Dharwad. During the catastrophes of the earthquake in Latur, Gujarat, Kashmir, war in kargil, and the flood in Uttarkhanda, kalamandala had organised painting exhibitions, and the proceeds of those exhibitions  were  donated to the Government of India, to help the victims.
Kalamandal has many more dream projects in the coming years to enlighten and enrich the people of this region.
